There are many forms of blackish fungi including Stachybotrys Chartarum, commonly known as toxic black mold.

Not all black fungi are toxic but some are quite dangerous to human health. Your best bet before undertaking the task of killing and removing mold is to test to see what kind you're dealing with, so you'll know how to best proceed or whether it's time to call in a professional remediation company.
