Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)

When entering a musty-smelling attic or an attic containing visible mold, wear the following:

  1. A half-face respirator (or full-face respirator if you have a beard)
  2. Safety gloves
  3. Safety goggles
  4. Safety protective coveralls with a hood
  5. Booties over your shoes, or shoes or boots you leave outside and clean before you return to habitable rooms

If you have long hair, tie it back. When you leave the attic, take your coveralls, as well as shoes, boots or booties, off as soon as possible, before you shake these items by moving around, and before taking off your respirator. Place the items in a plastic bag. Clean your clothing before wearing again.
