In most cases, mold is a good thing outside in nature.It breaks down organic material into soil that nurtures new growth.

However, there are certain types of mold and certain places where you don't want this organism growing because it creates unsightly stains, slimy mottled splotches, musty odors, allergies and other health issues, and it destroys whatever it's growing on.

For these reasons and others, you will want to remove outdoor mold if you find it growing in any of these locations:

• Bricks - whether brick patios, pathways or the brick walls of your house.
• Concrete - fungi can't actually eat concrete but they can stain it.
• Decks - mold can not only make your deck slimy and unsightly, but it can also literally eat away the wood and wood supports.
• Driveway - cracks and edges of concrete or asphalt driveways are prime growing spots in humid climates or from sprinkler water.
• Fences - made of wood and often holding moisture, fences are a prime candidate for outdoor mold growth.
• Grout - around pools, patios and hot tubs.
• Patios - brick, stone, slate, flagstone, mortar and grout can all require treatment from time to time if exposed to excess moisture.
• Roof - roof mold is common in many climates and needs to be treated before it gets into your home.
• Siding - rain, sleet, snow, flooding, leaks, high humidity and sprinkler systems can all create an outdoor siding problem.
• Spa - Hot Tub - Jacuzzi - musty odors and patches of green or black growth indicate a problem in or around your hot tub.
• Stone - mold can't actually destroy stone, but it can look bad, smell bad and cause it to be slippery.
